Gerhard Müller, an East German citizen, wanted to take his family on holiday to Bulgaria in 1975. He could not afford a hotel and planned to spend the nights in the family's Trabant. So he had the idea of building a tent on the roof. The prototype was built in 14 days, weighed 40kg and was successfully tested in the process. The model was patented and built in small series. In the 1980s, the happy "tenters" would meet for a weekend in the countryside to share drinks, barbecues and holiday memories...
